In show 12 Joe and I go over the major mirrorless camera announcements and releases from the Photokina trade show. There was a lot of speculation leading up to the show, then the disappointments of the actual specs on Nikon, Canon, Fujifilm and Panasonic mirrorless cameras. It seems that Sony is in “the cat birds seat” and is the company that surpasses in features.
We compare some of the plusses and minuses of mirrorless cameras versus those of DSLRs. One myth is a lighter weight system. While it is true that the camera bodies are smaller and lighter, some of the new lenses are coming in at twice the weight and cost. We compare some specs of the cameras and lenses and go over the current pricing for both mirrorless and DSLRs. My personal opinion is that switching to mirrorless will future proof your investment in photography gear. Hopefully with more choices the prices will become more competitive. For me personally, at the price point of the Nikon Z system, I’m taking a hard look at Fujifilm’s new GFX 50R medium format mirrorless body as an option for my next camera system. Joe has a great article about “Is the DSLR dead?” on his blog.
Here’s a hilarious parody done one the EOS R in Spanish called “CANON ENGINEER TALKS ABOUT THE EOS-R FULL FRAME MIRRORLESS”.
